Under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which came into force on 1 July 2026 and runs until 31 March 2030, electric cars in Delhi do not get a direct purchase subsidy. Instead, electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) get a 100% waiver of road tax and registration fees, and buyers who scrap an old BS-IV or older vehicle can get a ₹1 lakh scrappage incentive. Direct cash subsidies go to electric two-wheelers (up to ₹30,000), three-wheelers (up to ₹50,000) and light goods vehicles (up to ₹1 lakh).

Delhi EV Policy 2026 at a Glance

Subsidy on Electric Cars in Delhi
There is no direct cash subsidy for buying a private electric car under the 2026 policy. Electric car buyers get these benefits instead:

Two conditions to note: hybrid and strong-hybrid cars do not qualify, and vehicles that take the tax exemption have a three-year lock-in on re-registering in another state.

Subsidy on Electric Two-Wheelers in Delhi

The incentive is reported to apply to electric two-wheelers priced up to ₹2.25 lakh. A separate ₹10,000 scrappage incentive is available when you scrap an old two-wheeler. From 1 April 2028, Delhi will stop registering new petrol and CNG two-wheelers; existing vehicles are not affected.
Subsidy on Electric Auto-Rickshaws and Three-Wheelers

Electric L5M three-wheelers also get a ₹25,000 scrappage incentive. From 1 January 2027, Delhi will only register new electric passenger auto-rickshaws and three-wheeled goods carriers — new petrol and CNG three-wheelers will no longer be registered.

Fleet and School Bus Rules
- All new Delhi government vehicles and DTC intra-city buses must be electric.
- School buses must move to electric in phases: 10% within two years, 20% within three years and 30% by 31 March 2030.
EV Charging Under the Delhi EV Policy 2026
The policy aims for about 30,000 public charging points and battery-swapping stations, with Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) as the nodal agency. Private charge point operators get a single-window clearance process through DTL, and authorised vehicle dealerships must install at least three charging points for two- and three-wheelers and two for four-wheelers.

What Changed from the 2020 Delhi EV Policy?
The earlier Delhi EV Policy (2020) paid a purchase incentive of ₹10,000 per kWh of battery capacity, capped at ₹1.5 lakh, but only for the first 1,000 electric cars registered — a limit reached in 2021. The 2026 policy drops direct car subsidies in favour of tax waivers and scrappage incentives, raises support for two- and three-wheelers and goods vehicles, and sets hard dates to end new petrol and CNG registrations for autos and two-wheelers.
Central Government Support: PM E-DRIVE
The central PM E-DRIVE scheme supports electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaw and e-cart incentives run until 31 March 2028), buses, trucks and ambulances, and public charging infrastructure.
